Nebbiolo Prima 2012 Alba

NEBBIOLO PRIMA:
ACT THREE

Alba will host the international pre-release tasting devoted to the indigenous Piedmontese grape variety

13th -18th May 2012
Palazzo Mostre e Congressi - Alba (CN)

Nebbiolo Prima is an exceptional showcase devoted to the grape variety that is the King of the Langhe. The international event that has been defined as "the Italian wine summit par excellence" will take place once again from 13th to 18th May 2012. It will present a pre-release tasting of the new vintages of three great Piedmontese wines: Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero. Once more, it will be the town of Alba that hosts specialist wine journalists from all over the world, offering the chance to experience the world of Nebbiolo first hand and discover the infinite nuances that make this area and its wines unique.

The Palazzo Mostre e Congressi in Alba will be the site for the blind tastings of the new vintages: Barolo 2008 and Riserva 2006, Barbaresco 2009 and Riserva 2007, and Roero 2009 and Riserva 2008. Around 200 producers will take part with 300 wines, subdivided according to vintage and specific zone of origin. There will also be educational sessions (organized in cooperation with the Consortium for the Safeguarding of the Wines of Barolo, Barbaresco, Alba, Langhe and Roero) with seminars on the denominations and their various styles, visits to the crus that render each wine unique, and opportunities to meet the producers at their wineries.

The programme will thus allow each participant to choose a "made-to-measure" formula and so concentrate in greater detail on those aspects in which he or she is most interested. As always, the philosophy that lies behind the event is to offer wine specialists a complete overview of Nebbiolo in its "natural home". The main protagonists of Nebbiolo Prima will be the wines themselves, with each individual producer offering their own particular interpretation of the terroir. These companies are more often than not family-run businesses that still maintain a very human scale and are managed with intense passion.

Looking after the organisation of the event, behind the scenes, will once again be Albeisa, the association founded in 1973 which identifies with a single type of container – a special, distinctively shaped bottle – the best wines produced in the Langhe. Albeisa is a non-profit association, whose principal objectives are the promotion of the wines of the Alba area and the raising of their quality: the same goals that lie behind Nebbiolo Prima
